Dentistry for Children is excited to announce the arrival of our newest associate dentist, Dr. Jordan Pellegrom, more fondly known as Dr. Jory. He brings with him a wealth of knowledge in pediatric dentistry, having completed his pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital of Colorado. He is passionate about providing high-quality dental care to children and has a gentle touch that helps put even the most anxious, young patients at ease.
Dr. Jory’s roots are settled in Minnesota. He was born and raised in Eagan, Minnesota, a suburb of St. Paul. He attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota for his Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry before heading to the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry, where he earned his Doctor in Dental Surgery degree. Dr. Jory continued his specialty training in pediatric dentistry at the Children’s Hospital Colorado, known for its high quality training and treatment for children with special healthcare needs, its interdisciplinary approach to health and wellness, and extensive training treating patients under anesthesia.
When Dr. Jory was a child, he had a fear of the dentist, and when he treated his first pediatric patient in dental school, he realized he was not alone in that fear. Dr. Jory explicitly remembers his experience seeing that patient. “The little boy was fearful and anxious beforehand,” Dr. Jory noted. “I saw myself in him as he reluctantly climbed into the dental chair. Empathizing with his fear, I calmly explained each step, goofed around and distracted him from the sounds and feelings that were making him scared. We were able to complete the filling. Afterwards he told me “That wasn’t too bad!” and gave me ‘knucks’.” It was at that moment, Dr. Jory felt filled with purpose. He knew he wanted to become a pediatric dentist so he could continue to guide his patients’ first dental experience to be different from his own; full of trust, security, and fun!
Dr. Jory met his wife, Hyunjoo while attending dental school. Both Dr. Jory and his wife will now be practicing dentistry in the central Minnesota area, where his wife was born and raised. They don’t have any children (yet), Dr. Jory remarks, “but our spoiled and spunky doggo, Finny, a mini cockapoo, has been keeping us plenty busy.”
As a true Minnesotan, Dr. Jory admits that he is a diehard Minnesota Wild hockey fan, and luckily has somehow converted his wife into becoming a big fan as well. They love going to the games when they can. He jokes “my neighbors are likely grateful for each hockey season to end, so they can hear less cheering and yelling at the TV.”
When Dr. Jory is not practicing dentistry you will most likely find him on the river fly-fishing, or doing something active outdoors. His favorite hobbies are fishing, playing guitar, hiking, and snowboarding. His wife and he also love to cook, spoil their dog, check out new breweries, wineries and restaurants, and watch reality TV shows; Dr. Jory admits “[my wife] has really gotten me into it.”
